After Meredith patched up her gastric bypass guy, she found Cristina in surgery with Karev. And in my favorite moment of the episode, they reminisced about the last time they all pulled an all-nighter together. They took a brief trip down memory lane before Karev told them about his private practice dealings. But all I could think was how much I missed George and Izzie in that moment. And I have to give a special shout-out to Arizona's "God I miss Mark," because I think that at least once an episode!
With that, Cristina was off to Boston on her own, where she got her hair done by a very bold hairstylist. And despite the champagne she was holding in her hand just before the ceremony started, she still freaked out. She called Meredith and asked why she came alone. She needed Meredith to be there with her. She needed Meredith to be drunk with her. And she wanted Owen there to remind her to wear deodorant (which she'd forgotten). She didn't want to go it alone, so it was a good thing when she showed up at her table to find Owen and Mer waiting for her. After all, what's a girl to do without her person and her man?
And just as Meredith's voiceover talked about never being alone and standing side-by-side with the colleagues who have supported them and prepared them, I could've sworn this was going to be the moment that Dr. Burke showed up. The colleagues that prepared us?! I mean, come ON. But alas, I was wrong. There was no Preston Burke, and there was no Harper Avery Award for one Cristina Yang.
What did you all think of the episode? Were you expecting Burke to show up? And are you just as bummed as I am about Cristina's loss? I need to hear all your predictions for how she's going to leave the show. But before you tell me, enjoy this gem of the night from McDreamy: "Doctors don't cry in hallways. We have stairwells for that." Some things never change.
