Aaron found his way down to the cells, and Damon wasn't happy to see him. Aaron had never used a gun before, but he pointed it at Elena. He thought she'd killed Megan. No. His parents then. Damon said that wasn't her -- it was him! I guessed that a while ago, but it's still shocking to hear him say it. At first, did you think he was just saying it to get Aaron to point the gun at him instead of Elena? Flashback to Damon coming up with his revenge plan: After he killed all the Augustines, he would kill every member of the Whitmore family but one. He'd let that person grow up, start a family, and then he'd kill that generation save one. And so on. And so on. And so on. And that's what Damon did. Damon said he's killed countless Whitmores since 1958. Elena demanded to know when the last one was. It was a few months ago. GASP! A woman named Sara. In Charleston. GASP! He wasn't just saying this to save Elena! He was with Elena three months ago, about to have the summer of their lives, and she'd known nothing about it. (And this is the man she's let in her bed, Caroline would say.) Aaron shot Damon in the head. Good thing Aaron hadn't been told to aim for the heart. I felt fooled, too. I mean, yes, Damon had been brutally tortured for five years. But to destroy innocent family members? And he came up with that when he still had his emotions on.
At Salvatore Mansion, Caroline wanted help moving the safe, but Stefan was busy elsewhere looking to make kindling of the chair(s) he'd broken. Katherine and her extremely sexy shirt came in, and Stefan said she'd clearly been right about him focusing on the physical pain of dying instead of the heartbreak of the breakup. So he'd admit she knows what she's doing? To be honest, he said, he never knows exactly what she's doing. Sometimes she doesn't either, she said, handing him a piece of wood. (WOOD. Get it!) He tossed it away and gave her a come hither look. She sauntered up to him. Inches from his face. "Like right now, for example," she said, touching his chest. HOLY S---. I was literally pounding the desk I was sitting at. There was screaming. Breathlessness. All from me, of course. It was excruciating, the slow build. The foreplay. Obviously the director, editor, and EPs knew what they had here because that moment went on FOREVER. I'm sorry, folks, but Stefan and Katherine are suddenly the hottest chemistry this show has ever seen. There was finally a kiss. And then another. And then it was on. Caroline was leaving Elena a message when her vamp hearing picked up the heavy breathing and kissing sounds. She wants Elena to call her back immediately. So at least Caroline will figure out Elena's missing.
Aaron called Wes, who told him to go to school and live his life. Aaron put on the watch, and again I wondered if there's something more to it that I'm missing.
Damon woke up in his cell and admitted to Elena that he had that gunshot coming. Only Elena wasn't there in the cell beside him. Had Aaron set her free and she left him? No. Cue the humming of "Walkin' After Midnight." Elena was in restraints on a table NEXT TO ENZO. Yeah, he was too hot to lose after one ep. Welcome, to the show. Not get shirtless. Thanks!
Your turn. What did you think of the episode? Have your feelings for Damon changed? Is the love triangle back to being an isosceles? Go!
