Damon finally admitted to Elena that he doesn’t want her to be cured. Even if she still loves him, she'll be human and he’ll be a vampire, and they won’t work. She told him to take the cure with her so they could grow old together. That’s Stefan, not him, he said. He used to miss being human (yeah, like in the Christmas episode not so long ago, Damon), but now he can’t think of anything more miserable than being human.
Elsewhere in the woods, Stefan saved Rebekah from the pain of a spear and had her safely pinned against a tree with his hands on her waist. Hot, but no time to makeout. He wanted to know whether she was serious about a cease-fire. Rebekah asked why they all assume that she hates Elena so much. Because she ran her off a bridge. Yes, but that's because that was the only way to save her family. Rebekah’s right, I suppose: Elena’s helped kill two of Rebekah’s brothers to save the people she cares about. That’s what they all do. Maybe she and Elena aren’t as different as people think they are. They headed back to camp, where Elena now couldn’t find Bonnie or Shane. Shane’s things were gone. And so was the headstone. Not a shock.
Also not a surprise was how Caroline worked Klaus: She asked Klaus how he could do this to her and Tyler. He said it’s because he’s pure evil. She said no, it’s because he’s hurt -- which means there’s still a part of his humanity left. She said she’s seen it, and she’s caught herself wishing she could forget all the horrible things he’s done. “I know that you’re in love with me,” she said. “And anybody capable of love is capable of being saved.” Klaus almost broke down in tears and told her she was hallucinating. She pretended to take? took her final breaths, and he fed her his blood.
At the camp, Rebekah freaked out thinking Elena and/or Stefan had taken the headstone or was working with Shane. That makes no sense, which they were able to convince her of. Was Stefan saying every moment of his last 146 years was ruled by the pain of being a vampire suggesting that maybe HE won’t love HER when he’s human, or just meant to show her that he wants to be human whether or not she loves him? Elena offered Rebekah the white oak stake as a peace-offering. Rebekah said there was no peace, they’re all screwed. That's why Elena said the three of them have to work together now. Rebekah accepted it.
Shane ran through the woods and met up with a bound and gagged Jeremy. Jeremy was escorted by an islander, who is also a witch that managed to mask the path that Bonnie had taken. Shane said the guy could make sure Bonnie would never find her way back if she tried to escape. “Silas awaits,” Shane said.
Damon went walking through the woods and got hit by an arrow. He realized it was from one of the Five from the mark on the guy's hand. The hunter snapped Damon's neck. More torture next week! Maybe if we didn't know the hunter was coming from released photos that would've been a cooler reveal.
Your turn. What did you think?
