The Voice recap: Great Fiery Wrecking Balls

The top three singers deliver a trio of go-big-or-go-home performances, and someone even sets fire to the stage. Literally, though.
Ep. 25 | Aired May 20, 2014

Shakira and Blake Shelton duet on “Medicine,” and it’s like listening to Charo and Foghorn Leghorn hit up a karaoke bar. That wasn’t rude, just observational. I actually really enjoy the song, certainly far more than “Empire.” I’d like to listen to it without Blake, and I’d like to see much more of this Shakira-as-Jessica-Rabbit-as-burning-inferno look.

Usher and Adam sing/ramble their way through their duet, a super low-key “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” that would be perfect for a rainy day or maybe a late ‘80s porno. It’s fine. It’s nice. It goes on a little too long. They have a “yeah, yeah, yeah” shriek-off that’s kind of hilarious. Good job, boys. I appreciate you both.

And so, with nothing else left to say, we’ve reached the end. I hope you go and vote your heart out tonight, because I don’t want to hear complaining tomorrow. We have three worthy contenders and they each deserve to win based on their own merits. My personal pick is Josh. I’d be happy with Christina. And I would applaud Jake, but wouldn’t really care too much to follow up with him after this is over.

Who are you rooting for? Drop me a line @MarcSnetiker on Twitter or leave a comment here! I’ll meet you back here tomorrow night for THE LAST VOICE RECAP OF THE SEASON! And if you’re not tired of me yet, I’ll be moving on to recap something else this summer, so please give me a suggestion because I really treasure our relationship.
