Meanwhile, Alicia was dealing with her own out-of-court drama. Her brother, Owen, returned for the Thanksgiving holiday and to warn Alicia of their mother's impending arrival. Welcome, Stockard Channing, to the roster of Good Wife guest stars! Veronica Loy came to town seeking legal support from her daughter following the recent death of her husband, Malcolm. Prior to Malcolm's death, he had written Veronica out of his will because of her alleged cheating. She totally did it, but that didn't stop her from recruiting David Lee to help her get the money she thought she deserved.
Veronica admitted that the men in her life "either bore me or die." But she still wasn't happy when Malcolm's son accused her of cheating. David Lee flipped the table and then sued Malcolm's son for intentional interference with expected inheritance, claiming the son had lied about an affair to get his dad to change the will. And since there was no proof of an affair—other than Veronica's admission to Owen—David Lee knew he had a strong case.
I loved how this family reunion played out: Veronica clearly drives Alicia crazy, and anyone with a mother can relate to that. Leave it to a mom to talk about a book called Vagina to anyone and everyone who will listen. Owen was so terrified of his mother that he was willing to lie during her probate hearing. And that (false) testimony secured her win in her probate hearing. That's what family is for, right?
But the tension between Alicia and her mom culminated at the Thanksgiving dinner. This line from Owen probably reminded some of you of your own family dinners earlier in the week: "I got three whites and two reds. You think that will be enough? Apparently not..." Unable to take much more of her mother's constant critiques, Alicia chose to fight fire with fire by sending Jackie in to chat it up with her mom. To say those two don't get along would be an understatement. But their not-so-subtle jabs at each other were priceless, and easily the highlight of the episode.
Jackie: "So glad you decided to visit. Zach and Grace were wondering about their other grandmother."
Veronica: "I heard you nearly died, Jackie."
