'Survivor' recap: Clash of the Titans
* How awkward was that beach footrace between James and J.T.? I mean, what was the point, other than to watch James be humiliated by losing to a dude running backwards? Which granted, is point enough. But I have to say, after seeing Colby get completely used in a few challenges, and after watching Colby not fighting to save himself around camp, I can't say I disagree with James' assessment about Colby's game this time around. ''It's like I found out Superman was in a big girdle,'' he said. ''You see those muscles, then you get up close and it's a fat suit. Honestly, do you want to be here?'' Colby admitted to me before the game that he was emotionally checked-out of All-Stars but insisted that this would be a different story and that he was totally invested. And when the game began, he did appear to be reinvigorated. But as his tribe kept losing, and his alliance-mates kept leaving, he lost his fight. Lucky for him, the tribe (one week too late) realized they could no longer afford to keep Gimpy McGee around and voted James off instead.
* I have to guess that James knew beforehand that he was going home. I don't think Amanda would have blindsided him like that and he didn't seem too upset after. I also have a feeling that the scene we saw of Colby and James talking in the shelter was probably run out of sequence and was actually filmed after James had already been told he was going home. Look at what James told Colby: ''I still think I can kick your ass. But you're the great Colby. So if you turn it on and start winning, we'd be all right. And I don't mind that as long as you start winning. But if it's the old sleepy-ass Colby, you know, that gets beat by a fat man and a cripple, that ain't right.'' Why would he say that he still thinks he can beat him and talk about Colby turning it on and winning in challenges unless they both knew that James was going and Colby was staying. And when James says that he ''don't mind that as long as you start winning,'' that sounds a lot like a guy who already has been told that he is being sacrificed for the good of the tribe. The whole thing just doesn't add up. My guess is that scene actually occurred later and James' ouster was already a done deal at that point. Look at me, getting my Sherlock Holmes on!
* Remember when James promised J.T. after being voted off that ''I'm gonna be good and drunk in the next five minutes''? Having seen him at a few Survivor events in the past few years, I would be shocked if it took five. In fact. I'm not so sure he wasn't already drunk when he stumbled on that step on his way out of Tribal Council. And I'm not sure I wasn't drunk when I watched it. Of course, maybe that's just because this was another intoxicating episode of what is turning out to be a stellar season. Or maybe it's simply because of the Milwaukee's Best in my refrigerator. Either way, I'm happy to let you know the Survivor fun doesn't stop here. We've got an exclusive deleted scene for you in the player video player below. And we also have special pep talks that Tyson and James recorded for themselves before the game began as a little pick me up for after they got voted off. Of course, Mr. Two Fingers himself, Jeff Probst, is blogging his little heart out, so make sure to read that for all the super cool behind-the-scenes insight. And check back later for exit interviews with Tyson (on Thursday) and James (Friday). But for right now, it's your turn to weigh in. Who are you rooting for: Boston Rob or Russell? Who would you have kept: Colby or James? And where does Tyson's vote flip rank on the list of dumbest Survivor moves ever? Share your thoughts on our message boards which are now open for business.
