Both CJ Harris and Casey Thrasher (Wednesday's cliffhanger pair)
New as of tonight...
Caleb Johnson, the Rock of Ages understudy of the season. The judges question his authenticity every single time they are forced to consider him. I get their worry that people will think he's fake, but I believe he GENUINELY has the personality of a Rock of Ages understudy, and that this might not be a terrible thing on a reality show. He's fun and harmless. Get this: A whopping 80 percent of live viewers voted that they thought Caleb wouldn't make it through. Very interesting! (In that not too many people are interested, apparently.)
Ethan Harris, the lost Osmond brother, a scaredy cat with a decent voice who seems like cannon fodder. Can't BELIEVE they needed this guy over Savion Wright.
Briston Maroney, a real force of nasal. I mean, nature! No, nasal. It's all you can think about when he sings. He'll be polarizing, but could surprise us.
[Either Ben Briley or Neco Starr]
Sarina Joi Crowe, Nalina Quintello, and the never-before-seen Sandie Lee were cut along with a devastated (and super talented) David Olliver Willis. "I don't know what else there is to do when you pour your heart out and sing well" was particularly heartbreaking, from David. And Savion Wright's cut is just insane. Why should this season only have one black guy with a guitar (CJ Harris)? Savion's voice was excellent and I had this gut feeling as soon as they showed his audition a few weeks that America would naturally fall in love with him. And that feeling never waned, even when Harry called his solo performance "flat." This elimination is a big disappointment.
You can text '1' for Ben or '2' for Neco to 83676 or vote at AmericanIdol.com or via the American Idol app. Voting closes at 10 a.m. PT Friday, Feb. 14. Videos of all the contestants are here, but some quick reminders....
Ben Briley's audition, "Arms of a Woman":
Neco Starr's audition, "Someone Like You" (he had to share a segment with fellow repeat-auditioner Caleb Johnson):
Did your favorites make it? Are you baffled, too, as to why they'd cut Savion?
