RUN RESIDENT RUN: Emily (Mamie Gummer) takes a pause upon realizing this photo may not actually be from the most recent episode.
It's been a while since I last recapped Emily Owens, M.D. due to a very nasty other lady named Sandy. But after surviving a week without DVR (or power or hot water), I've never been so happy to be back at the recapping biz...though I wish it was a stronger episode of Emily to discuss.
Unfortunately, it was a pretty slight hour despite starting off intense. Like twin babies fighting for their lives inside the womb intense. Happy Tuesday! So there were two sisters, one of whom was being a surrogate for the other. Not much else was known about them except for the preggers one had a real extreme, slicked pony. And the non-pregnant one had blunt bangs a la Zooey Deschanel. Oh and bangs sisters was married to a blank fella who was handsome in a very gay porn/original Melrose Place-kind-of-way.
So Emily was recruited by Dr. Hamada for this particular case. Hamada was played by Brittany Ishibashi, who was on one of my favorite shows of last summer, Political Animals. After doing her first ultra sound, Emily discovered that one of the babies had a heart defect and would die if they didn't do an in vitro surgery. This caused the two hair sisters to squabble and weirdly always require Emily to be in the room with them. How convenient for storytelling purposes!!
The ladies initially argued over whether or not to have the surgery but then of course they came to an understanding. Although they still had very strong dissenting views on amounts of appropriate hair product. In the end, both babies were saved in surgery. Not really shocking.
