THREE GEMS AND A BABY Zendaya considers adulthood.
Andy Dick and Sharna Burgess: 18/30 Andy was out of his element from the start on the paso doble (with Sasha and Emma) -- as he explained, he doesn't have "that moh-chismo….olé! kind of thing." So naturally he entered the Rectagon on a zip line and then tried to mask his lack of technique with capework-on-speed. And a Zorro mask. The judges had fallen out of love -- "It was more Pasadena than paso double," grumbled Len. BURN, Pasadena. (Was that the burning city simulated on the giant screen behind the foursome? And was this really the best imagery to use?)
D.L. Hughley and Cheryl Burke: 18/30 The other comedian has lost the judges' favor as well after his and Cheryl's sticky-lipstick tango with Sasha and Chelsie. I still think D.L. mostly just walks around and doesn't really move during his dances, but he did "attack" it more than usual this time, and to be fair, the tango does involve a lot of walking. My favorite of their walking moments was when Sasha slid across the floor in front of them while Chelsie sprinted across the floor behind them. Nothing like the illusion of movement created by human props!
I'll miss D.L.'s scripted one-liners if he goes tonight -- the guy's growing on me, plus he's abandoned his hyper-sensitive approach to the judges' critiques. This segment was overall amusing, too, what with D.L.'s "dirty old man" approach to hip-connecting, combined with Sasha's interesting lecture on the tango, which included 1) "The tango is like balls." 2) "Like, the man's dance." 3) "Like, shooting rage." I think we've found The Bruno of Our Pros!
Big announcement: Next Monday the couples will dance to ALL Stevie Wonder songs. It'll be a regular ol' American Idol theme night up in here! Can't wait.
A big thank you to DWTS for having not just me but three first-timers: my boyfriend and his parents. This killer view PLUS Our Host Tom Bergeron bounding up the stairs to say hi to us?! The bonus points I have accrued are through the roof/rafters. It's a gem explosion! I have never seemed cooler to real adults. Guaranteed. It's all downhill from here, Barrett!
So who goes home tonight? D.L.? Andy? Victor? Ingo?
