Nooooooooooo! After spending just two weeks in the presence of the Great and Powerful Lord Mirrorballus, our Dorothy must depart the land of over-saturated colors, CGI mayhem, and glittering gems. Dorothy Hamill and her partner Tristan MacManus had to bow out due to the figure skater's prolonged injuries -- a direct order from her spine surgeon. This is devastating news indeed, but I can't help but marvel with restored faith in humanity that finally, someone on Dancing With the Stars has sacked up and listened to a doctor.
Lisa Vanderpump & Gleb Savchenko and Victor Ortiz & Lindsay Arnold landed in the official bottom two, so they get another chance to dance. "Use it well!" Tom warned them ominously from the downstairs area of sadness.
According to what Tristan told EW after the show, he had urged Dorothy to leave the competition long before tonight, knowing that the enlarged cyst on her back would put her at medical risk. "It was a decision that I wanted her to make before, but it wasn’t my place to make," he said.
Dorothy's apologetic speech about her decision was entirely sweet, but the brief behind-the-scenes footage we saw from before Monday night's jive summed up where this couple was at just as well: "Your work's done -- you just gotta smile," Tristan reminded Dorothy moments before the dance. "Have a good one."
Have a good one! Agggggh, so cute.
There's never enough Tristan! That's what this is really about. My dream prom date (look who's already fantasizing about Week 3's theme!) deserves one of those young, spry rubber bands that Derek and Mark always get. He's earned it! How long will the Irishman have to wait for his lucky charm?
Tonight's results show was like a mini So You Think You Can Dance reunion, with Lindsay Arnold's BFF and season 9 ballroom rival Witney Carson joining the official Dancing With the Stars Troupe along with Julian Tocker (who apparently goes by the sassier "Julz" in real life, and by that I mean on Twitter). We also saw the triumphant return of SYTYCD and DWTS alums Dmitry Chaplin and Chelsie Hightower as they flung themselves across a supremely foggy stage -- the very definition of "Brave" as Josh Groban belted out his new single. I loved how for about 12 seconds Dmitry just nonchalantly strolled around with Chelsie literally hanging off his chest in a horizontal line.
This one moment following the FABULOUS opening number from all of Our Pros (choreographed by the genius Jason Gilkison) made me well up with tears (what is wrong with me???):
Welcome to the show, Witney! Here is your consolation prize for not getting a celeb partner....yet.
