Big Brother is its own category in reality television. Unlike other competition shows like Survivor or The Amazing Race, Big Brother airs essentially in real time. But for the most part, only evictions are shown live on TV, unlike talent competition shows like American Idol or Dancing with the Stars, which are always live. And of course, isolating 16 strangers from the outside world completely is what makes Big Brother what Big Brother is. Wednesday night as seen on the CBS live feed, producers broke one of their biggest rules when they informed Frankie that his grandfather had died. Sister Ariana Grande tweeted "asked grandps last week if he wanted us to pull frankie off bb & he said 'no way! he's gotta play the game even tho i don't understand it.'" So Frankie, heartbroken with the news, stayed.
But just two days later on Friday, a devastating coincidence occurred when the producers broke quarantine yet again to tell Derrick that his grandfather had also died. Derrick, who had just thrown the Head of Household competition so Frankie could win and see pictures of his late grandfather. Two days, two houseguests, two really bad ways to learn of a loss. Breaking news of the outside world almost never happens (the most notable example of them telling is 9/11), let alone twice in one season. But there was no mention of Derrick's grandfather in tonight's episode, so it's unclear how exactly it's going to affect the game.
In the house, it's day 35 and life hasn't changed that much; everyone is nervous about how Zach will use (or likely abuse) his HOH power. Like he so clearly did with Devin before, Zach sets a clear target for Amber after he "accidentally" kicked her in the knee doing a celebration dance in the storage room. With Zankie back on top and giving the best hugs ever, Zach tells Frankie that he isn't afraid of a little blood on his hands and everyone's fears slowly start to come true. Calling himself the "King of the Castle," Zach then tells Caleb that he wants Amber out because he knows that she wants him out just as much. As a weird way to thank her for providing that information, however, Zach wants to nominate Christine with Amber and have Christine throw the Battle of the Block competition so he can stay in power and evict Amber. But Christine wasn't willing to sacrifice herself that easily and quickly got on Zach's bad side.
